Who we are
wayfare deli & coffee, Unit 5, Grove Building, 8 Grove Avenue, Claremont, Cape Town, is the responsible party for your passport information under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Ask any of us at the counter if you have a question.
What we keep
- Your first name, so we can greet you.
- Your mobile number, so the barista can find your passport.
- Your email, only if you give it, so you can open your passport on any phone.
- The date and time of each stamp and each free drink.
That’s it. No surname, no birthday, no card details, no location tracking.
Why
Only to run your passport: count your stamps, give you your free drink, and show you your history. We also look at overall patterns (like which hours are busiest) to run the shop better.
Emails
Passport emails (your passport link, “one stamp from home”, “welcome home”) are part of the passport. Anything else, like a “we miss you” note, is sent only if you ticked the separate box, and every one has a one-click unsubscribe. You can change this any time in your passport settings.
Who else sees it
Nobody gets sold or given your information. We use a few trusted services to run the passport: Vercel (hosting), Neon (database), Clerk (sign-in) and Resend (email). They process data on our behalf and some of it is stored outside South Africa, with appropriate safeguards. Baristas see your first name and a masked number; only the owner sees your full number.
Your rights
You can see what we hold, correct it, or delete it. Open your passport, tap Passport settings, then Delete my passport. It disappears straight away and is permanently erased within 30 days. You can also ask us at the counter. If you’re unhappy with how we handle your information, you may complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa), inforegulator.org.za.
How long we keep it
For as long as you have a passport. If you delete it, we erase it within 30 days.
